ShinyHunters claims 200,000-record haul from Florida motor vehicle database

ShinyHunters claims it drained Florida's restricted driver and vehicle portal of more than 200,000 files and set a September 11 release deadline.

A public countdown now hangs over Florida’s motor vehicle records. ShinyHunters, the extortion group tied to the 2024 Snowflake data raids, has set September 11 as the day it releases files allegedly taken from DAVID, the state’s restricted driver and vehicle lookup system.

A new entry appeared on the group’s leak site September 7 under the name “State of Florida DMV,” demanding officials respond before the deadline and offering a link the crew calls sample proof. Breach trackers logged it the same day.

In messages to reporters, ShinyHunters describes a password-reset flaw as its way in, saying it reset credentials tied to motor-vehicle department accounts plus one it links to FBI personnel. It claims it walked record IDs and pulled more than 200,000 driver files with attached images before the bug was fixed and access closed.

DAVID is built for law enforcement and other approved agencies, and its files can include license photos, signatures, addresses, vehicle histories and insurance data. The evidence posted so far is a single screenshot: a purported Jeffrey Epstein driving record with a photo, signature, expired license, Social Security number and registration details.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has neither confirmed the intrusion nor answered press questions. The group says the operation has no connection to the IDScan.net trove of roughly 153 million license scans, which it previously tried to buy from the actor Nexus, and nothing in the sample has passed forensic review.

ShinyHunters’ history argues against dismissing the deadline: trackers count more than 100 named victims on its leak sites, and the crew has repeatedly backed threats with real data. For anyone whose registration data sits in the state system, September 11 is more than theater.
