Autocrypt reclaims DEF CON car hacking crown with AI crew

Autocrypt's Red Team topped all 83 squads at the DEF CON 34 Car Hacking Village Capture the Flag, its first win since 2022.

A single team finished everything at this year’s Car Hacking Village Capture the Flag. Autocrypt’s Red Team swept the challenge set during the DEF CON 34 gathering in Las Vegas, outlasting 82 rival squads and reclaiming a title it last held in 2022.

The firm placed third in the prior edition. News of the win surfaced the week after the event wrapped on August 9.

Behind the run sat a hybrid workflow. Autocrypt’s platform spun up several AI agents that scouted weaknesses and mapped attack surfaces in parallel, while its researchers evaluated the output and chose each next move. CEO Duksoo Kim framed the mix as automation speed guided by human judgment, and predicted similar setups will spread as autonomous agents take on security tasks.

The company will carry the method into vehicle vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, eyeing OEMs that must run continuous monitoring under UN R155.
