The window closes October 2. Flock Safety began accepting applications Friday for a voluntary separation program, and told staff that most who ask will receive a package.

Internal correspondence seen by WIRED described the terms as the richest the company has offered, about twice prior severance, framed as giving employees “greater agency” alongside transparency and choice. Sources say a large share of the roughly 1,500-strong workforce may take it, with packages reportedly reaching tens of thousands of dollars and several months of health coverage.

The company raised money at a valuation above $8 billion in a round that closed in April. Since then a string of agencies has declined to renew or terminated deals, and vandalism targeting its cameras has added unplanned costs. Two people said revenue goals are at risk and that without the buyouts layoffs were likely.

Flock’s network exceeds 120,000 cameras in 49 states. Reporting this month described officers accused of using it to follow former partners and colleagues, wide data sharing between agencies, uncertainty over where the hardware is built, and how much one dismantled device held: about 1.6 million images across 21 days.

The Senate Judiciary subcommittee on crime and counterterrorism hears from surveillance vendors on Wednesday, with Flock’s chief executive among those invited.
