Microchip Adds FOTA and Key Management ICs to Meet Automotive Cyber Regulations

New Security ICs for Automotive Compliance

Microchip Technology has expanded its Trust Platform with two new integrated circuits designed to help automotive manufacturers meet tightening cybersecurity regulations. The TA101 TrustFLEX and TA101 TrustMANAGER combine factory provisioned secure authentication with scalable firmware over the air (FOTA) and cryptographic key management services. These products target software defined vehicle architectures where secure authentication of electronic control units is critical.

Features for Connected Vehicle Security

The TA101 TrustFLEX IC comes preconfigured for common security use cases like hardware based authentication, reducing development time for automotive engineers. The TA101 TrustMANAGER integrates with Kudelski Labs keySTREAM SaaS platform to enable remote cryptographic key lifecycle management, secure in field provisioning, key revocation, code signing, and FOTA updates. This helps vehicle systems verify that only authenticated software and commands reach electronic control units.

Impact on Regulatory Compliance

In automotive applications, these devices support compliance with ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE WP.29 regulations by providing a hardware rooted chain of trust from manufacturing through in field operation. The platform helps mitigate cybersecurity risks by ensuring only authorized software updates are applied to vehicle ECUs. This is particularly relevant as global regulators mandate security controls throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
